I have taught in a public charter school for Pre-K to 4th grade in Washington, DC as well as worked for Kaplan Educational Test Prep and Administration Company as a teacher and promoted to Academic Manager; which gave me the responsibility of training and making sure that the teachers were kept up to date on material and assigning them to classes and following up with them by observing them in the classroom. I have a B.S. in Accounting and love to learn by reading and researching and graduated with 3.97 gpa out of 4.0 from Southeastern University located in Washington,DC. I value education and each child/adult should have every option to learn and if I can be one of those people to help a person achieve their educational goals than I would be more than happy to be of assistance.
I have a broad range of educational background ranging from general education classes to psychology, medicine, philosophy, accounting/finance, variety of athletics. I played college basketball and ran high school track and cross country. I also specialize in tutoring children/adults with special needs. Hope to hear from you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Basketball

I started practicing basketball in the 4th grade and began team playing in the 5th grade. I played all through elementary, jr. high and high school. I played my first year in college and after that due to an injury only played in leagues with the YMCA and other local events. Now, I continue to practice and teach my 5 year old daughter. I would love pass on my knowledge of the game. I would practice in the mornings before school for 2 hours and after normal practices would practice and hour after school. Ball handling w/ both hands and proper form for shooting is vital to the success of the individual and the team.

Business

I have 16 years of experience in a variety of industries; from entry level to corporate management level. Industries I have worked in are: food service, hotel/hospitality, amusement park, university accounting, construction accounting, retail, customer service, call center, education, test prep, running my own accounting business and Human Resources. I have worked with SOX reporting (sarbanes-oxley act). I have also supervised/managed anywhere from 3 to 200 employees. From this short paragraph you can see that my wide variety and years of experience have filled my mind with a vast array of knowledge and expertise.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have taught at a Charter School with the Pre-school through 4th graders and currently help w/ afterschool care of my daughter and her kindergarten and first grade friends. I also have taught Sunday school w/ children in the infant to Jr. High ranges. The earlier our children have and get help the easier education will be for them and they'll be more confident later on in school if they see that adults are there for them now, at the younger years.

Phonics

Phonics is something I take very seriously. Without learning how to pronounce letters and words correctly, reading will not come easily to a child learning to read. Once phonics are down, words are easier to put together. For example, I have a 5 1/2 year old daughter who had a hard time with certain letters so I purchased several books that focused on phonics and went over them with her most days, and now she's doing great. I also used them with my niece who has epilepsy and has had brain surgery and they have helped her considerably.

QuickBooks

In running my own Consulting Business, I primarily use QuickBooks not only for myself but for my clients as well. QuickBooks is very versatile (can be easily adapted and set up for virtually any business). Currently, I have set up QuickBooks for a client whose business is General Contracting and I've set up QuickBooks for a client whose business is creating glass art and selling it and holding classes, etc. I've taken the courses offered at our local University for getting certified in QuickBooks as well as have read the books on QuickBooks (i.e. QuickBooks for Dummies, other books). QuickBooks is made user friendly and easy to operate. I can set up and teach you how to use QuickBooks quickly and efficiently.

Softball

I have coached softball for over 2 years as head coach and was an assistant coach prior to that. While in school, I took a class in which softball rules and styles of coaching were taught.

Study Skills

Studying takes skill and skill doesn't come to everyone in the same form or subject. In my research and experience I have honed my study skills by working as an Academics Manager at a nationally recognized elite test prep company. I have led students to better confidence and higher test scores.

Tax Preparation

I have a BS in Accounting and have worked for several years preparing taxes. I hold a PTIN (personal tax identification number) and take Continuing Education classes each year to maintain my tax preparation status. Recently I have branched out from doing taxes independently to working for Jackson-Hewitt during tax season.
