As a certified Illinois math teacher for grades 6-12, I use teaching methods adapted to your student's strengths. No two people learn in exactly the same way. By discussing how my students learn with both students and parents, I can use their strengths (and everybody has strengths) to tackle the areas that need improvement. I am very patient and understanding. I teach all middle and high school mathematics except calculus. In addition to being a math teacher, I am a licensed Illinois attorney. I spent years teaching people to better understand what they read and to clearly express themselves in writing. I am qualified to teach ACT and SAT preparation in math and English. In addition, I teach history (U.S., European and World), politics and government. I have worked with students who not only need to know about these subjects, but also have to write papers on them. Let's get together and learn!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Hebrew

I am qualified to tutor Hebrew for several reasons. I lived, worked and studied in Hebrew for three years. During my first six months I took an emersion class in Hebrew for four hours per day. During my last two years, I attended the Hebrew University in Jerusalem where I took classes and exams strictly in Hebrew. When I returned to the US, I earned 35 semester hour credits in Hebrew. I have also spent hundreds, if not thousands, of hours studying the Hebrew Bible and commentaries in Hebrew.
