I am a professor of physics in the Chicago area. I love to teach physics, both the physics majors and also to people who just like science or have an interest in learning. Part of my time is devoted to research in high energy physics, such as the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Teaching runs in my family and I often work with my own kids, especially in science and math.

Outside of work, I am a trained Administration Judge for USA Swimming - both my kids are swimmers.

My wife and I like to travel, and we like music. I am an avid reader.

Today I enjoyed a first tutoring session with an intelligent young student who wanted to understand better how a speaker works. She had built one as part of a class assignment and it worked! The principle of the speaker is a based on physics, namely, the force between two magnets. I explained how a time-varying electrical current from the stereo system flows through a wire wrapped in the form... read more
