I am a professor of physics in the Chicago area. I love to teach physics, both the physics majors and also to people who just like science or have an interest in learning. Part of my time is devoted to research in high energy physics, such as the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Teaching runs in my family and I often work with my own kids, especially in science and math.
Outside of work, I am a trained Administration Judge for USA Swimming - both my kids are swimmers.

Michael is professional, knowledgeable, and has the rare ability to communicate effectively. He stays with you until you completely understand a concept and gives specific examples to help you retain the information. It is wonderful to see a desire to succeed in our daughter after a tutoring session with Michael.
Michael really helped my daughter get through her Algebra class. She was struggling with just a few concepts which made her fall behind. Michael was very patient and encouraging with her. He helped bring her up to speed with the rest of the class after just a few sessions. I strongly recommend him as a Math tutor.
Mr. S is a very good teacher. Very knowledgeable, solved all problems we came across in my Calculus II class. Also very good at explaining how the material being taught is applicable to real-life situations. Also, he is very flexible, he makes time for lessons (even on weekends). He also works on problems outside of the lesson, for example from a study guide, to go over together at the next lesson.
Michael is an excellent and very effective tutor. Our daughter needed a tutor two weeks before her final exams and Michael stepped in and gave her the help she needed and more. We have used a number of good tutors in the past, but Michael exceeded our expectations in every way. He sought out relevant information about our daughter’s tutoring needs and formulated a realistic plan to meet those needs. He came to every session well-prepared with practice problems and quickly identified and addressed all knowledge deficits. Michael has a number of important qualities that make him a great tutor including - mastery of subject matter, preparation prior to each session, ability to communicate effectively with students, patience, timely communication, and flexible scheduling to meet the student’s needs. We were very lucky to find Michael. Our daughter enjoyed working with him and, because of his excellent tutoring; she was well-prepared for her exams.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
