Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have been a school psychologist for 27 years. During that time, I have helped many students with ADHD. I also have a Life Coaching certificate which emphasizes life coaching skills with people who have ADHD. I enjoy helping people meet their needs. I am especially interested in helping students with ADHD to make the transition from high school to college.

English

My qualifications to tutor English are in the area of English as a Second Language. Grammar is an intensive part of this subject, so my area of expertise would be in helping people who are learning English as a conversational language. I have a certificate in the subject, and I have taught ESL at a community college and have found it to be a very rewarding experience. I teach using an English in English approach which I find helps the student to learn conversation quickly.

ESL/ESOL

I have a certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language. English grammar was strongly emphasized as a major part of the curriculum. I have a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology, which included Learning Theories and Psychological Development. As a School Psychologist, I have consulted with many teachers, giving suggestions for the best ways for children to learn. The district I was in has a culturally diverse population with many students who need to learn English. I worked with many bilingual teachers to provide help for their students.

Grammar

Grammar is an integral part of ESL certification. I have obtained an ESL certificate and have taught a class of English learning students at the community college level. English has always been a favorite subject of mine and I have especially enjoyed learning the grammar. I have also studied French, German, and Hebrew, which has given me the experience of comparing the grammatical structures of several languages.

Study Skills

I have 27 years of experience as a school psychologist. During that time I have met many students who are failing because they don't know how to study.

My Ph.D. is in Educational Psychology, which is an intensive study of Learning and Development within an Educational environment. By studying Learning Theories and Cognitive Psychology, I have acquired knowledge in various approaches to learning. I have also studied Developmental Psychology, which has given me background in the abilities that students of specific ages can be expected to achieve.

I have also consulted with many teachers, developing programs for students who need to learn how to study, taking into consideration their unique needs for learning.

TOEFL

I have been a school psychologist for 27 years. During that time period, I worked with many students who are from diverse cultural backgrounds. I enjoyed learning about different cultures from my students and colleagues. I like language, and look forward to helping others to enjoy the English language as much as I do.
