Adobe Photoshop

As a practicing artist, I implement the use of Adobe Photoshop in most of the work I create as I use it for all post-production editing and printing preparation. I have had extensive training in using Photoshop, completing courses like Advanced Digital Photography and working as a freelance photo editor for my own work, independent photographers and several photography studios. I have taught several workshops on photography and digital workflow with Photoshop at Glenbard South High School and the Western Sun Art Conference. In addition to having experience in digital capture and output, I am well-versed in scanning and archiving negatives and photographs to be edited through Photoshop for both print and digital outputs.

Art History

As a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, I have completed over 30 credit hours in art history, theory and criticism. I have completed courses in art history ranging from pre-historic art to contemporary art and possess an even deeper knowledge of photographic, Etruscan, and East Asian art histories. Most of the courses I completed emphasized in Japanese and East Asian art history ranging from pre-historic to contemporary time periods and in order to supplement this area of study, I have been learning Japanese. In addition to my classwork, my passion for art history has brought me to Italy and to numerous collections and museums around the world, as well as to art history symposiums and to published and renowned professionals who write for such magazines as Art Journal and Juxtapose.

Art Theory

As a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, I am well versed in art history, theory, and criticism and have completed over 30 credit hours in this subject area. As a practicing artist, my knowledge of art theory goes beyond learning the facts to understanding how it applies to the practice of art making, developing one's critical thinking. My extensive knowledge in art history aids my knowledge of art theory as it allows me to connect artists and artwork to movements, schools of thought and influential criticism that not only affected the art world, but culture on a whole. As a teacher, I believe the key to understanding art theory is exposure to art and criticism and opening up a discussion with the student in order to help make the connections for themselves rather than teaching a set of facts, names, and terms to be memorized - for the key to understanding theory goes beyond simple memorization to the development of critical thinking.

Drawing

I am a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and having been through the program, I have completed a number of rigorous courses in drawing. I was one of a select number of students to be selected for LeRoy Neiman's last gifted artists drawing program and have worked with such renowned artists as Caitlin Mitchell-Dayton of the San Francisco Art Institute. My drawings can be found in a number of private and public art collections and have been awarded such honors as the DuPage Credit Union's Artist of the Year Award, the Judge's Choice Award at the National Drawing Exhibition and has been shown on national television. I have extensive training in figure model drawing and life drawing working with mediums such as pencil, colored pencil, ink, charcoal and pastel and believe it is important to teach my students the importance of learning how to examine their subject visually and connect it viscerally through the physical action of connecting pencil to paper.

Painting

I am a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and have extensive training and practice in painting. As a freelance artist, i have worked with acrylic and oil paints and have completed murals and paintings for both public and private collections, including Glenbard District 87 and Val's Sunny Shears Salon. Beyond completing classes that were purely about painting, I incorporate the practice within my own artistic practice, combining it with my photographs, sculptures and ceramic pieces. As a tutor, I believe the key to learning how to paint is teaching the student how to become comfortable with the medium through extensive training in creating under paintings, how to mix colors, controlling the paint in order to learn how to blend and manipulate it but also teaching freedom and creativity as it is a medium that begs to be tactile and expressive.

Photography

I am a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a Bachelors in the Fine Arts with an emphasis in photography. I have completed over 42 credit hours in photography and am proficient with both digital and analogue formats as well as highly proficient in digital post-production editing. I have worked as a freelance event and portrait photographer and post-production editor creating and editing work for individuals and companies across the country. In addition, I have taught workshops on photography through Glenbard South High School and the Western Sun Art Conference teaching everything from basic camera use to advanced post-production and printing.
