Hello!
My name is Emily and I am here to help you! I graduated in 2007 from Wheaton Warrenville South High School, and then soon graduated in May, 2011 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I studied Integrative Biology, which is the study of Ecology, Evolution, Genetics, and the core Physics /Chemistry classes. I also minored in Spanish. I chose that major and tailored it so I can pursue a career in marine science. I did a few animal internships and found myself changing career paths. I am now applying for programs for diagnostic medical ultrasound.
After graduation in 2011, I was accepted to intern at Bermuda’s Aquarium and Zoo! I was learning how to be an Aquarist in the summer of 2011. I was able to give talks throughout the day to the public that came through the aquarium, and also to students attending their summer camps. After Bermuda’s internship, I was accepted into the US Navy Marine Mammal Program in San Diego, California. I was an intern for four months working with their dolphins and sea lions! It was a very special experience, as I was working with animal trainers and veterinarians at the Naval Base. Now I am back home and I would love to spend my time helping students with their Biology coursework.
I was a peer tutor at Wheaton Warrenville South, and I chose to tutor through the National Honors Society. During college I was always up for a group effort to learn material (it is hard to learn it all on your own!). I volunteered to tutor at a local elementary school in their after school program, and I had a blast! We would pair up with a student for each semester, and work with them in reading, writing, and math. I have been through the hard days and the good days, and I have learned that tutoring takes someone to be encouraging, patient, and trustworthy. I will be responsible for understanding a student’s learning needs, because everyone has a different way of grasping a concept. I have been the student who is afraid to ask for help, or does not understand new material; therefore, I am more motivated to bring out the best in whomever I work with. My preparation, passion, and positive outlook have helped me earn my degree and participate in some incredible internships. Not only am I here for simply knowledge of a subject, but also to show the potential a student has.
