My name is Alicia and I have a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts which I received in Australia from Monash University and a Masters Degree in Fine Arts from SUNY University, Albany New York. For most of my life I drew and just wanted to explore my surroundings through art and it’s shaped my outlook to life, and I have come to a point in my life that now, I just want to give back to others.
I enjoy working with children that have a desire to learn the arts, as I know in my heart that stimulating the creative side of the brain can enhance them mentally and instill self awareness. Allowing them to discover the talents they were given at birth.
Drawing
Each student will learn the fundamentals of drawing through many various drills and exercises while constantly interacting with fellow class mates. These drills enhance observational skills, improve reaction and builds confidence within each child. Once the student has a solid understanding of the fundamentals they are exposed to a greater understanding of structure, perspective and proportions. With each exercise the student will be exposed to another component until they understand how to express themselves in the world of drawing.
Painting
Each student will learn the importance of blending and applying paint using different brushes and tools in order to create their master piece. They will explore different brush strokes and how to apply it in different directions. Each of them will enter the wonderful world of oils, acrylics and water colors and understand their differences. The class will be exposed to the history of color and some of the important artists dating back to the Prehistoric world through to the Renaissance and to the Modern movements of today. The color wheel will be understood by each student and used as a reference for color relationships. There will be a series of exercise drills that each child will be expected to do which improves coordination and an eye for creating 3 dimensional illusions on a 2 dimensional surface.
Fashion & Design
Each student will design various garments and learn how to take measurements to fit, along with an ability to execute any of the required hand stitches before using the machines (the machines can only be used by very responsible students). Fabric textures and different types of fabrics will be explored. And the color wheel will be understood by each student and used as a reference for color relationships when designing. Designing is mathematical especially when working on 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional designs. The student will be challenged as they will have to create and measure their designs to work as far as color and shapes are concerned through many different exercises.
