Greetings from West Chicago where I reside with my husband and our four children, ranging in age from 13 to 20. I have instructed in many individual and small group settings during the last 20 years. While my teaching certificate from Trinity Christian College has a secondary endorsement, my background includes many experiences of working with students of all ages, from inmates at the Cook County Jail to high schoolers, and all the way down to preschoolers.

During the last five years, I have taught Preschool, Zoology, Language Arts and Math for 1st-4th graders, and at the Jr. High and High School level, I am currently instructing and preparing material for the topics of ancient through modern history in a private school. Currently employed full-time, I am only accepting summer school students.

I thoroughly enjoy assisting struggling readers and help them to become excited and motivated and have also been employed as a tutor in Algebra, History, Writing, and the Sciences. In addition, I find teaching piano irresistible and have an avid love for music.

I look forward to the opportunity to meet you and can provide a background check from the State of Illinois upon request.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

Through connections to current events, meaningful games, and engaging discussions, I present history with a focus to the world we currently live in.

Elementary (K-6th)

As an instructor in a Home School co-op for the previous 4 years, I prepared lessons and taught students from Kindergarten through 6th grade.

In Math I've used a variety of partner games to reinforce the basic facts and demonstrations in the group setting to teach new skills. For example, my 1st graders participated in a water experiment to understand volume and capacity and the 4th graders made penguins using shapes to practice fractions.

Reading lessons are filled with phonic games and comprehension activities to attract and hold the attention of those more apt to move around.

By using the highly successful material from the Institute for Excellence in Writing, my students learn how to summarize, compose paragraphs, and create narrative stories.

Elementary Math

My elementary math sessions are jam packed with games and challenges to equip those struggling to learn new skills. Your child and I will approach those trouble-some everyday math problems side by side until independence is achieved.

European History

Through connections to current events, meaningful games, and engaging discussions, I present history with a focus to the world we currently live in and always attempt to answer the question, "Why do we have to know this?"

Government & Politics

This is a fantastic subject to walk students through as it pertains directly to our responsibilities as citizens in this nation. Through current events, engaging discussions and memorizing strategies, government becomes more interesting.

Grammar

Through a variety of games and life applications, my students learn the rules of grammar and then practice what they've learned by writing narrative and expository paragraphs.
