I have strong ability and experience in providing tutoring in High School and College Math through Calculus and Analytical Geometry including AP Calculus AB and BC; High School Physics including Honors and AP B and C Physics, and College Classical and Atomic Physics. I can help with preparation for ACT and SAT Math, Science, and Reading sections. For college students and intended grad students, I can help strengthen capabilities to improve GRE, GMAT, and MCAT test scores.
I received a Ph.D. Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, where I was a research assistant, and a M.S. in Engineering at the U of California, Berkeley, where I was a Teaching Assistant. My teaching experience includes a position as an Adjunct Engineering Instructor at Triton College, Illinois. In parallel to my academic teaching and tutoring experience I have twenty-one years’ experience in the aerospace industry involved in Research and Development, which includes mentoring more junior engineers in engineering theory and practice.
Technique/Approach to Tutoring:
My tutoring technique includes assessing student’s strengths and weaknesses of the basic prerequisite knowledge needed to perform well in the specific course and strengthening those skills and knowledge base as needed. In parallel, I will be working closely with the student on the present the class material to keep the student up to date in class and assist in the completion of homework assignments to insure timely submissions with full credit. In preparation for tests and quizzes I will assist in a summary review of the material to be covered.
My emphasis in the learning process is to focus on learning the basic concepts and then working through various problems in application of these basics. Once the student is confident of the process of applying the basic concepts to initial problems, repetitive work on similar problems by the student will continue until their knowledge and capability to address the type of problem is confirmed. A primary goal is to assist the student in the learning process to make it enjoyable and to build self confidence in his or her ability to tackle new subjects.
Most recent experience included tutoring high school students in Algebra I and II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Advanced Placement Calculus and Physics, ACT,SAT, GRE and GMAT preparation with very good results in improving student's capability, confidence, and grades. Some of my most recent GMAT tudents have been accepted into Harvard's and Northwestern's MBA Programs, U of Illinois- Urbana-Champaigns grad school Dept of Public Health (GRE), and undergrad schools at Northwestern, UIUC and Cal Berkeley.
