Professional English Teacher & ACT Prep / College Writing Tutor

I am a certified English teacher with a Master's degree in Education and 6 years of teaching experience at the high school level. I strongly believe that all children have the ability to learn, and my priority as a teacher is to discover and maximize a student’s strengths and interests in developing their knowledge and skills in areas of struggle. I have a talent for connecting and working cooperatively with a variety of students and for helping students to take an active role in their own learning.

My areas of expertise lie within language and the humanities, and I have tutored students in general English studies, test preparation, and academic writing. I have worked extensively with students on writing college admissions essays, and I have yet to see a student whose rigorous revisions led to anything other than an acceptance letter. In recent years, I have also had a great deal of success preparing my students for ACT English and ACT Reading exams, helping students to understand the grammatical concepts, writing techniques and reading strategies necessary for a successful test.

Perhaps the clearest testimonial hails from the college campuses from which my former students continue to contact me for assistance reviewing and revising their college essays – or to simply share that they are successfully implementing strategies we discussed in their tutoring sessions!
