I am a fun and outgoing person and I exhibit this personality as a tutor. I hold a Bachelors of Arts and a Masters of Arts in Sociology. I also hold a Bachelors of Science in Education with a Biology major and endorsements in General Science, Physical Science, Biological Science, and Social Science. Through the pursuit of these degrees I have earned a great deal of teaching experience both in and out of the classroom setting. I apply a great deal of my experiences as both a student and as a teacher to my tutoring methods. I fulfilled my clinical student teaching requirements by teaching for 8 weeks at Jay Stream Middle School in Carol Stream, IL and for an additional 8 weeks at Fenton High School in Bensonville, IL.
As both a student and a teacher I have become well aware of the many different goals and standards put in place by the Illinois State Board of Education. Through practicing these goals in my work as a student in the classroom, and as a practice teacher, I have been able to formulate my own goals that I would like to apply as a tutor. In order to have the greatest impact on student learning, it is my goal to break down the barriers that impede student learning. When these obstructions are removed, students will then be able to accomplish anything they set their minds to. Students will also become empowered to learn once these barriers are shredded. It is also my goal that I create such a tutoring environment so rich and full of promise, students will only be able to reach their full potential.
I will bring a great deal of teaching experience to the tutoring experience should you select me. In addition to my previously mentioned experience, I have also spent a great deal of time teaching and tutoring students at the college level. As a graduate assistant during my masters program I tutored undergraduate college students in sociology and taught two college courses in the same field. I have also had many tutoring and mentoring experiences with young children.
I work very well with children as I have had four years of experience as a mentor in the Big Brothers and Big Sisters program of America. I have also spent many hours successfully tutoring middle school children in reading and mathematics through the America Reads and America Counts mentoring program. Working with those in need is indeed a strong suit of mine and I apply the same determination to my teaching. I look forward to hearing from you.
