I was born in Chicago, IL and due to my parent's divorce, ended up being raised in southern Spain, in Fuengirola, (Malaga). Although I've known for a long time that my first language was English, I've never remembered when I "didn't" know Spanish. Culturally speaking, it's always been like I had a foot in both countries. My main contact with the States was English, especially when coming every other year to visit my father's parents in Chicago, IL.
I've always appreciated knowing a second language and enjoyed the idea of being able to help others who are trying to learn it. I volunteered as a Spanish tutor during my years at Lindenwood College, St.Charles, MO. I've never developed a "method" to tutor but used, at the tutoring center, whatever textbook the student in question brought with him/her.
