While the discipline of tutoring is anything but easy, my philosophy of tutoring is something rather simple: a good tutor is the one who stays organized and prepared and combines the knowledge of the subject with the passion for teaching it. My gift is that I can deliver the information and analysis to the student, where they can gain confidence and renewed interest in a subject that is hard to understand.
Currently, while I am still steadily working for WyzAnt Home Tutoring, I am also a part time member of the Faculty, Graduate Teaching Assistant in Biology and Biochemistry, and Student Learning Support at a Local State University in the Chicago area. My duties vary between teaching and tutoring students in subjects such as biology, chemistry, biochemistry, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, genetics and other biological, biochemical as well as biomedical sciences. My academic background includes a Master of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences from Rush University (RU), and two bachelors of science degrees, B.S. in Chemistry from DePaul University and a second B.S. in Biology from University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). I have also fulfilled many of the requirements as well as research for my earned M.S. degree at the University of Chicago in Hyde Park (UC). In addition, I have proudly and humbly obtained a National Honor Award from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as well as a current certification in medical laboratory sciences: MLS(ASCP)cm, current through Feb. 2017.
In regard to my work experience, it includes tutoring math and chemistry at DePaul University as well as AP biology at SABIS High School, anatomy and physiology at Oakton Community College (OCC). Further, I have worked for several years as a research assistant in the biochemistry in the biomedical research laboratories at the college of medicine at the University of Iowa and in industrial research and development labs in the Chicago area. Furthermore, I have several years of additional work experience in education as a member and Team Leader of National Academic Professional cohorts, training college graduates and teachers in the art and science of US national tests standardized evaluation in language art, math and sciences.
Consequently, this unique background of scholastic achievements, rich work experience in teaching, educating and tutoring, and valuable work experience in research and applied science combine together, all in an orchestrated manner, to make me a rare and strongly fit species in the world of education.
In terms of my fee, it is a fair hourly rate for the abundant amount you get in return. Given that I tutor many subjects, it is reasonable to occasionally expect some variability at mutually-agreed terms.
My tutoring services encompass four major study areas:
