I became a teacher and taught for 17 years because I truly enjoyed and had compassion for adolescents and kids. During my tenure, I was often described by students as approachable, friendly, and inspiring. In class, I employed a variety of strategies and methodologies to achieve an engaging and lively classroom and learning atmosphere. I encouraged and fostered open communication amongst my students and with parents and other staff members, in order to support and help develop my students to reach their full potential.
With regard to my language instruction, I strive to include ample opportunities for listening, speaking, reading, and writing in German. I believe it is essential to include clearly stated learner objectives, a clear explanation of material, ample opportunities for practice, and continual assessment of and feedback on students' learning. During my tenure, I taught beginner through advanced levels of German, including AP preparation. I taught 8 students who were AATG Study/Travel Prize recipients, and although I do not claim credit for their accomplishments, I do believe this speaks to the credibility and vitality of the German program that I taught.
