I graduated from the University of Illinois with degrees in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. Later, I graduated with a masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I've been actively teaching in a local school district for the last 26 years. I've had the joy of teaching Kindergarten, 1st Grade, Developmental 1st Grade, 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade, 5th Grade, and even a reading intervention program called Project Prevent. I have a wide variety of experiences which makes it easy for me to work with students of all ability levels. More importantly, I still have such a love and passion for helping students reach their potential, gain confidence, and attain success.
Each child is different, therefore each child learns differently. What works for some may not be appropriate for others. When I take on the reponsibility of tutoring a student, I'm able to adjust and adapt lessons as needed. When something doesn't work, I usually have a backup plan and/or trick up my sleeve. I am creative, encouraging, patient, and try to make learning fun and interesting.
I believe that teaching and tutoring are not solo events...I like to work as part of a team. That means that I gather my information and evaluate our successes by frequent communication with parents, students, as well as email and/or telephone communications with my student's teacher.
I would be honored to help your child with reading, math, spelling, writing, and/or homework help. Since each of us is an individual, I realize that each student also has individual needs. Please contact me for more information. Thank you!
