Hello! I am a mother of 6 and I have been a teacher for the past eleven years. Through my experience as a parent and as a teacher, I see the vast differences in student learning styles. While some are very visual learners, others are more auditory or tactile. I believe that all students learn differently, and I work tirelessly to develop lessons that provide that kind of individualization for each student. I am experienced at all elementary levels in all subject areas, as well as in ESL for children and ESOL/TOEFL for adult learners. I am also very comfortable and experienced with students who have IEP's and 504 plans and I have worked closely with the special needs teachers at my school to find superior ways to support these students. I have taught ESL and I have worked with students and adults from many different backgrounds and cultures. I believe in building strong foundations, which are often missing due to the pace and expectations of today's public school environment. I also believe in "gap filling" because sometimes all a student needs is more specific practice to allow for understanding and growth. Tutoring, then, can be continuous support, or can be relatively short-term, depending on the the students' needs and goals. I am well-versed in current technology, and believe in the benefits of apps and games as ways to practice and support skill building. I am always open to conversation, and always willing to adapt my approach as needed. I am very kind and believe in positive motivation. Students would describe me as fun, friendly, and fair. I look forward to working with you on this journey!

I am happy to discuss options for multiple students from the same family as well as small group lessons on the same subject. These options will reduce the per child cost, so let's talk!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been teaching students with ADD/ADHD for many years in the classroom setting. I also have a daughter with this condition. I have taken professional development courses to learn more about how to better service these children.
I have worked with dyslexic students in the classroom for 11 years. I have also researched the phonic and visual strategies that support these students.
I am an Illinois Certified Teacher (K-9). I have been teaching for the past 11 year. I first taught in District 300, and presently teach in District U-46. I have a Masters in Education and Endorsements in Middle School Math, Language Arts, and Social Sciences. I also have an Endorsement in ESL. I differentiate my tutoring based on the student's needs and goals.
I have a Masters degree in Education, and an endorsement in ESL. I have also been trained in teaching adults in English as a Foreign Language, and I will be working on my Masters in Literacy with an emphasis in ESL/Bilingual next year.
While phonics is taught primarily at the lower elementary levels in the school classroom, I have found that using phonics strategies can significantly improve reading and spelling regardless of a student's age. I have been a teacher for the past 12 years and I have taught phonics-based reading, even with the advent of "guided reading" and other styles that have come and gone. All students need to understand and "hear" letter sounds in order for them to sound out longer words they encounter as texts increase in difficulty.
I have been teaching for 11 years. During this time, the focus of Literacy has evolved to include public speaking. Even at early grade levels, teachers are required by the state, and now Common Core, standards to provide opportunities for students to practice public speaking through the presentation of projects, speeches, and shared research. It has been recognized that Public Speaking holds great importance in terms of success later in life, both in employment opportunities and social situations. For these reasons, Public Speaking has been part of my curriculum for as long as I can remember and I have become fluent at teaching it.
I have been a public school teacher for the past 10 years. I have had numerous students in my classes with special needs. I have attended professional development to better teach these populations. These students are often placed in my classroom due to my patience and desire to support their learning through multiple intelligences and learning styles.
I have been an intermediate teacher for the past 12 years. It has always been a priority to ensure my students are explicitly taught skills that will not only make them better at studying, but skills that will also make them better test-takers. Through Quantum Learning strategies, which emphasize recent studies in how our brains learn and process information, I teach my students a variety of ways to study better without studying longer.
