As a licensed educator in History, I believe I can offer a level of mentorship that will not only be immediately effective but also transformative in terms of how the student views his/her education as a whole.

While content and proficiency is imperative to the learning process, it is not complete without a learned understanding of why it is important to be educated for a balanced and fulfilling life. I believe all educators need to reiterate the importance of the educational process to motivate the student intrinsically.

I will use my classroom experience and pedagogical knowledge to apply foundational teaching strategies, interventions, and differentiation methods to make the student successful. This success will not only be measured by grades, but by the students' eventual willingness to seek such achievements on their own.

The areas of writing, reading, reading comprehension, and any subject specific to Social Studies are my specialties, although I am not limited to these subjects.

I am looking forward to hopefully enabling your student or yourself to reach these goals!

Thank you for your consideration.

Political Science

As a Secondary Education educator in History, I was required to take many classes that incorporated the ideas, concepts, and content of political science. I also have a political science endorsement in teaching. For I have taken 15 credit hours in political science at Dominican University, passed the political science exit exam at my university, and passed the Illinois State Board of Education political science education content test.

Social Studies

I have a BA in History from Dominican University in River Forest Illinois. I am certified to teach History from grades sixth through twelfth for I have a Type 09 certificate in Secondary Education as well. I have taught 7th and 8th grade Social Studies classes, and have substituted (with a Type 39 substitute certificate) such classes as well. I am a member of Phi Alpha Theta (The National History Honors Society), Phi Gamma Mu (The National Social Sciences Honors Society), and Kappa Delta Pi (The National Education Honors Society.)

Study Skills

I have a Type 09 and Type 30 Professional and Substitute Teaching certificates in Secondary Education. I have worked and tutored students from ages 10-20 through many tutoring-based programs throughout my education foundation experiences during my time at Dominican University. I have completed student teaching aiding in the educational advancement of 6th, 7th, and eighth grade students in Math, Writing, Reading, English, and Social Studies. Some of the programs I have participated in include Dominican's Gifted and Talent Program, Westchester Middle School tutoring and advisory, and all of my in-class experience I have had teaching during clinical practice and substituting.

Writing

In addition to teaching writing skills, organization, and theory in the middle school classroom for over a year now, I have honed my skills through my job working as a Academic Success Center Writing Tutor at the college level. As an Academic Success Center Writing Tutor, I work with college students on all types of disquisitions, from research essays in mathematics, to argumentative essays in psychology. I have also facilitated academic writing, grammar, and vocational essay workshops in the college's Library Resource Center for over a year now. I am currently in the process of specializing my role at the center to become the designated historiography tutor as well.

Insightful and very helpful! — Emily has been a godsend for my son! She has turned his F in History into a C, and the grade continues to improve. She has been extremely helpful in showing him how to prepare for tests and quizzes, and helping him to stay on point. She has even gone out of her way to prepare study guides for big tests! I can't say enough nice things about Emily!! ...
