Career Development

I have a minor in professional writing and three years of experience working at DePaul University's Writing Center. During my time working at the Writing Center, I specialized in helping college and adult aged students create resumes and cover letters and work on job application. I also presented a workshop on revising and creating a strong resume.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have experience working with elementary level students in a variety of settings. I am an after school tutor for upper elementary student, and I am a certified Reading Specialist for K-12. In my tutoring, I work with elementary students in variety of ways that engage them in learning. My area of expertise is helping elementary students develop their language, reading, and writing skills.

ESL/ESOL

I am a certified English teacher, and I have a number of different experiences with tutoring English as a Second Language. For instance, my over three years of tutoring in the areas of reading and writing (through a number of organizations such as my university's writing center and my student teaching experience) included a number of ESL students, at the elementary to adult level. I was able to help these student improve their English skills and feel more confident in using the English language.

Currently, I am a part time ESL teacher. I meet weekly with the student to help her improve her English in the areas of reading, writing, and speaking. I can help you too achieve your goals in learning the English language.

Grammar

My experience with grammar comes from my college coursework and Language Arts teacher background. As an undergraduate, I took an advanced level grammar course. As a teacher, I am constantly helping my students improve their grammar in their writing with lessons about a variety of topics. I have also tutored an adult on improving her grammar in her professional workplace writing.

Literature

My literature experiences range from middle school level to college level. As an English Education major in college, I took many advanced courses in both American and British literature. I have also taught American Literature at the high school level. Currently, I teach Literature to 7th grade above level students in middle school and incorporate in my instruction the teaching of reading strategies for a variety of fiction and nonfiction works of literature.

Study Skills

As a middle school teacher and after school tutor, I constantly work with students to improve their study skills. I help students determine their unique learning styles and teach they strategies for learning and studying based off of their learning styles. A major part of study skills is organization and time management. I can help students prioritize their assignments and be successful in studying in all content areas.

Writing

I have several years of writing experience. I have worked with students from the middle school level to adult. My experiences working with adult and college aged students comes from my three years working at DePaul University's Writing Center where I assisted students in a variety of writing projects, including resumes, cover letters, and college level research papers. I also have three years of experience teaching writing at the high school and middle school levels as an English/ Language Arts teacher.
