I am a certified teacher and have experience teaching English Language Arts both at the middle school and high school level. I also have experience in test preparation, including ACT prep. I have taught Writing, English, and Reading ACT prep classes at a very competitive high school. I am currently teaching 7th and 8th grade Language Arts.

I recently completed my Master's degree as a Reading Specialist. I am also a summa cum laude graduate from DePaul University with a B.A. in English Education.

I enjoy working with students of all ages and subjects. I have over six years of experience tutoring in a variety of subject areas. My areas of expertise are reading, writing, study skills, and test preparation. My experience is with a diverse range of students from the elementary level to the college/adult level.

Grammar

My experience with grammar comes from my college coursework and Language Arts teacher background. As an undergraduate, I took an advanced level grammar course. As a teacher, I am constantly helping my students improve their grammar in their writing with lessons about a variety of topics. I have also tutored an adult on improving her grammar in her professional workplace writing.

Writing

I have several years of writing experience. I have worked with students from the middle school level to adult. My experiences working with adult and college aged students comes from my three years working at DePaul University's Writing Center where I assisted students in a variety of writing projects, including resumes, cover letters, and college level research papers. Literature

My literature experiences range from middle school level to college level. As an English Education major in college, I took many advanced courses in both American and British literature. I have also taught American Literature at the high school level. Currently, I teach Literature to 7th grade above level students in middle school and incorporate in my instruction the teaching of reading strategies for a variety of fiction and nonfiction works of literature.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have experience working with elementary level students in a variety of settings. I am an after school tutor for upper elementary teacher, and I am a certified Reading Specialist for K-12. I am work with elementary students in variety of ways that engage them in learning. My area of expertise is helping elementary students develop their language, reading, and writing skills.

Study Skills

As a middle school teacher and after school tutor, I constantly work with students to improve their study skills. I help students determine their unique learning styles and teach they strategies for learning and studying based off of their learning styles. A major part of study skills is organization and time management. I can help students prioritize their assignments and be successful in studying in all content areas.

ESL/ESOL

I am a certified English teacher, and I have a number of different experiences with tutoring English as a Second Language.
