Hello! I now have summer availability! $10 off for lessons held in my home.

I am an Early Education Enrichment Educator and general tutor. I have been a teacher for 10 years and a tutor for two years. I have a B.A. in Elementary Education, a minor in Spanish, and an M.S. in Literacy. The majority of my teaching has been in 4th grade, but I have experience tutoring students of all grade levels.

My greatest interest and expertise is in math, reading, and writing. Writing is my life's passion, and I love finding, creating, and sharing strategies to assist students with math and reading. I've thought about trying reading and writing workshop with small tutoring groups. Please let me know if you're interested.

I also enjoy teaching Spanish. I've taught Spanish to students from 2nd to 8th grade, and I've also tutored high school students in Spanish II.

I'm excited to begin working with you!

ADD/ADHD

I have been an elementary school teacher for 9 years and have worked with students with ADD, ADHD, and both. I believe tutoring is the best option to help these special students improve academically because they benefit the most from the focus of one-on-one attention and instruction.

Clarinet

I have played clarinet from middle school all through college and beyond. Recently I've been playing in the American Winds Band and the Joliet Symphony Orchestra.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified teacher for grades K-8 and have been teaching for 9 years.

Phonics

I am an elementary bilingual teacher, so I have extensive experience in working with students who need to learn the complexity of English phonics, especially the vowels. I love the English language, and I know what books and materials to use to help students in the areas they need.

Reading

I have a Masters in Literacy, and this subject has been one of my favorite parts of teaching. I am an avid reader, and I bring this energy to my work with students. My favorite part of the teaching day has been guided reading instruction, in which I introduce a book, assess a student's strengths and needs, and focus on a particular skill with that student.

Softball

I have played softball since the age of 5. I have experience playing infield and outfield. I've been coached by my dad, who has been playing twice as long as I have! I throw righty and bat lefty!

Study Skills

I got straight A's except for 2 B's in high school (both 91%) and I had a GPA over 3.91 for my B.A. and a 4.0 in my Master's Degree. I am good at finding different means to learn and remember material, and I enjoy the challenge of taking tests. I am accustomed to teaching my students how to work backwards from the target, reading the questions, eliminating wrong answer choices, and looking for clues and evidence to find the correct answer.

Writing

Writing is my all-time favorite subject, especially since I plan on eventually making writing my full time career!

My goal in writing to is draw on students' interests to help make writing an enjoyable experience. The best writing is inspired writing!

For younger students, I have experience with Step Up to Writing to help with writing structure.

I enjoy conferencing with students to help them develop their own sense of their writing and what strengths and needs they have.

I also love grammar, spelling, and proofreading in general!
