Hi, my name is Elizabeth H. Recently, I graduated with my BA in liberal arts with specialization in education from the University of Saint Francis. I will start my masters program in January 2014 to earn my teaching certification K-9, special education endorsement, and reading specialist certification.
I am a very patient person, especially with students who are struggling. I am able to assess where the student is confused and explain things in a way that makes it clear to the student. I have different techniques for teaching students, since all students learn differently. I am very good with children and have experience in tutoring kids K-college. The most predominate areas I tutor are elementary math, algebra, geometry, algebra 2 and ACT Prep.
Math is an extremely difficult subject for most students because they lack the fundamental concepts taught due to memorizing. Math is not something that should be memorized like a fact. Math needs to be understood from the base. Most students have a shaky foundation, which causes problems further on down the road. My job is to help fill in the missing gaps and increase the student's confidence in his/her math skills.
The ACT can be overwhelming for students who are not confident in their test taking skills or content knowledge. I work with students to build their confidence and give strategies on how to take the ACT. The ACT is about answer questions correctly in a timely manner. I encourage students to do "homework" in between sessions to help prepare them for the ACT as well as show me their progress. Making small changes and answering only a few more right in each section can impact their overall score. Most of my students have increased their points by 3 points or more.
