After graduating from DePauw University, I tutored high school students in writing. I personalized each lesson according to the needs of the student as well as their interests. For example, I had a male student who was very interested in football. To explain concepts in writing, I used football as a tool to make them clearer for the student. When writing papers for me, I had him write about football, his family, and his interests in movies; however, I also brought in my own ideas like having my student watch The Matrix and read Fahrenheit 451 and analyze both. The student enjoyed both and learned to analyze literature through novels and the literature of movies.

My goal is to help the student learn the subject they need to master as thoroughly as possible. Because of this, I incorporate movies, youtube clips, images, models, and examples of my own work to help the student grasp the idea or concept that I am trying to teach.

Besides teaching concepts, rules of writing, and how to read a story, my goal is to teach students how to think independently and to be able to support their opinion with facts gleaned from the literature.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Study Skills

I graduated with a B.A. in English with a 3.52/4.0 GPA. In graduate school, I had a 4.0.

I have tutored study skills with Sylvan, Lindamood-Bell, and privately.

I am excellent at organizing, prioritizing, making lists, and helping students develop a system that works for them.

My time management skills allow me to work full time, tutor on the side, and enjoy dancing, playing pickle ball, visiting with friends and family and more.
