My name is Becca and I am a mother of four children ranging from age 3 to 15. I am currently enrolled full time to complete my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. During the completion of my associate's degree at Harper College, I was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa (General Honor Society) and Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honor Society). I completed my associate's with a 4.0 GPA and continue to maintain that through my bachelor's program. I was recently inducted into Phi Lambda Theta (Education Honor society).
I love to help students have that "lightbulb" moment, especially when they think that there is no way that they will ever understand the material. I think that I get just as much out of tutoring students as the students get out of it. Through my education, I have always taken a leadership role in my classes, often tutoring my classmates on the side in my spare time.
Recently I have decided that instead of teaching in a classroom setting after I graduate, I want to tutor full time. I love the thought of having my own classroom, but I dread the fact that in a class of 20-30 children, 5 or 6 are bound to get left behind, and teachers do not have the resources to slow down to address the needs of those kids.
I am proficient in all subjects outside of science through the 8th grade level. Math is my best subject; I know the most and enjoy it the most. I know that math is the subject that gives students the most difficulty and I have had multiple successes helping students to understand the "un-understandable" language of mathematics. I LOVE the moment when a topic finally clicks for a student, it is truly gift to be able to be a part of that.
I teach and tutor with the individual in mind, changing my style of teaching as needed to get through to my students/clients as efficiently as possible. I am a huge fan of visual aids, especially when it comes to math. For instance, fractions, a HUGE problem for so many, can be easily described by talking about and/or drawing pizzas.
I can travel to your home or a neutral meeting place (such as a public library).
I look forward to meeting you and/or your child!
