I have a Masters degree in Education from UCSB. I am also a certified K-9 teacher in IL, with an ELL Endorsement. Plus, I have over seven years of teaching and tutoring experience.
I have been trained by Kaplan to teach specific subjects on the ACT, and I have worked as an ACT Prep Instructor for the Princeton Review.
In addition, I have experience working as a tutor. I worked through Kaplan's in-home tutoring department and Sylvan Learning Center. I have tutored English, Reading, Math, Writing and Study Skills to students ranging from Pre-K-12th grade.
I am also familiar with many online websites, games and tutorials that can assist children in learning basic skills and concepts. I can help students catch up to grade level standards or help them get ahead. I try to use as many up-to-date methods as I can so that tutoring is effective.
I can motivate the "coolest" students to pay more attention and focus on their studies. I can also motivate shy, intimidated or confused students to do their best by simplifying concepts.
I can pinpoint obstacles that limit student progress, and teach students strategies so that they can improve.
I try hard to make sure that what gets learned in tutoring can also be transferred to the classroom, so that students' grades accurately reflect their abilities.
I am very detail-oriented, resourceful, dependable, caring and young at heart.
Most importantly though, I strive to make learning engaging and fun!
