I am recently retired. After graduating in 1977 from Eastern Illinois University with a B.A degree (1976) and M.A. degree in 1977, I spent 33 years in the telecommunications industry. I am now looking to use the skills I have honed during my career to help students find their way thru the fog of understanding their school work.
During my career, I have had multiple opportunities to train fellow employees. When teaching others, I believe in the Socratic method of teaching. For you parents that can remember the movie "Paper Chase", I would paraphrase a key scene by saying I can take your students mind and change it from a container of mush, to a vessel of knowledge. I believe in asking the students questions related to why they are doing something, not just how.
I can help you with a number of subjects; from basic math to simple algebra; reading and writing; United States history; and Microsoft Excel and Word.
