Hello!

My name is Priti, and I have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering from University of Illinois, Chicago. I have over 7 years of experience in teaching mathematics. Some of the subjects in which I have a niche are pre-algebra, algebra 1, geometry, algebra 2, trigonometry, and pre-calculus, and most of the honors/advanced courses listed.

I also have experience in teaching ACT (Math section only). I provide information to students on test taking skills, time management, and simple approaches to complicated problems.

Students whom I have tutored have performed exceptionally well, scoring mostly A's and B's and most of them have continued working with me throughout their high school careers.

I teach math in the summer as well, for students who want to continue / catch up / excel in their math skills, or prepare themselves for ACT Math.

I really enjoy teaching math, and that is what I do best.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I provide information to students on test taking skills, time management, and simple approaches to complicated problems. Also I provide information on which problems should be performed using the calculator to obtain the correct answer in short amount of time. We work together to create Basic formula sheet to help them memorize the important topics needed for the test.

Algebra 1

I have tutored many students in the basic Algebra course. I have worked with students who have difficulty understanding the basic foundations of the course. I have tutored students who also have taken advanced courses. I try to understand the missing links in their concepts and teach them effectively with my unique teaching skills. I also provide enough practice problems for them to improve their skills. I make sure I understand the need of the students and help them with patience. This way I create an environment where learning math becomes fun and productive.

Algebra 2

I have worked with many students in Algebra 2 courses. I have tutored all the topics dealing with factoring, FOILING, Solving for variables using quadratic equations, and graphing quadratic equations as well. I have also taught solving system of equations using graphing, elimination (combination), and substitution methods. I have also worked on matrices, exponents, logs and many other concepts covered in Algebra 2. I also provide students with additional practice, if needed, on any concepts before tests or finals. I am familiar teaching concepts on a scientific calculator when required by the course.

Algebra 2 can be a difficult subject, but with practice I can help students gain confidence and knowledge of these complex mathematical concepts.

Elementary Math

Elementary Math is the first basic subject to succeed in a series of higher-level math classes.

I would love to develop the students basic foundation in math with the right approach and using my teaching Technics. I make sure I understand the need of the students and help them with patient. This way I create a desire to learn math rather than have to learn it.

For example: I would teach the basic Multiplication facts by memorizing them in a fun musical rhymes. I have taught my own son who is just starting his 2nd grade.

I try to make math a fun subject.

Geometry

I have tutored Geometry to many high school students. I have worked with many students who have difficulty understanding how to write out proofs using the different shapes and figures. I have also tutored students who have taken advanced courses as well. Geometry uses many properties and theorem to solve problems for angles, lines, triangles, and many more figures.

Prealgebra

I have taught pre-algebra to many students in the past. This course starts out with basic properties of operations such as associative, distributive, and many more. The course evaluates expression using an order of operations known as PEMDAS. Also, it has review of natural numbers, arithmetic operations, integers, fractions, decimals and negative numbers, factorization of natural numbers, problems involving ratios, proportions, percents, measurement, intro to standard Cartesian coordinate plane, and basic geometry problems.

I have tutored my students with patience and provided them extra practice when needed for each topics they are struggling with. I make sure that students can enjoy and understand Pre-algebra and make math fun to learn.

Precalculus

I have tutored regular pre-calculus and advance pre-calculus to many high school students. Some of the topics I have worked with are Polar and Rectangular Coordinates, Complex Numbers, Series and Sequences, Probability: Permutation & Combination, probability using Binomial Theorem, Introducing Limits, Introducing Derivatives, and many more topics that come along in pre-calculus. I improve their skills with extra practice and my unique teaching skills. I work patiently with student according to their need to make the learning productive and fun.

Trigonometry

I have tutored Trigonometry to many high school students. I have worked with many students who have difficulty memorizing unit circle in degrees, and radians with their values. Some of the topics I have worked with are converting the angles from radians to degrees & degree to radians, graphing trigonometry functions, applying properties & identities, law of Cos and law of sin. Also I have worked on many more topics that come along in trigonometry. I have also tutored students who have taken advanced courses as well.
