Being an elementary teacher for over 20 years has allowed me to teach various grade levels and gain extensive knowledge in student learning styles at different ages. Having taught Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th grades, I discovered that all students need basically the same things--motivation, and a stimulating learning experience--in order to learn. Bringing concepts to life by relating them to real experiences motivates students to want to learn more. When students see the importance of learning and how exciting it can be, they will consistently yearn for more and more information. I believe it is the job of the teacher to create these experiences for the students through whatever subject they are teaching.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary K-6 is my specialty, especially since I have combined experience of over 17 years in Kindergarten, first, third, and fifth grades. Language Arts, including reading, writing, vocabulary, and spelling, is a subject area that I have extensive experience in teaching for the elementary student. Math is probably the most favorite subject for me to teach because of the methods used for memorization of math facts throughout the grades.

Being that I am a certified elementary teacher for grades K-9 qualifies me for tutoring Elementary K-6th.

Phonics

My qualifications to teach phonics include many years of teaching lower elementary grades including Kindergarten, 1st, and 3rd grades. Phonics is core for teaching the lower grades and was an important part of the Language Arts curriculum used as I taught these grades.

Also, my certification in K-9th grades qualifies me to teach starting at Kindergarten where phonics builds the base for early reading readiness.
