I have taught regular and special education in grades kgn. through 8. I teach so students understand what they are doing and how to do it in a way that it makes sense to them. I use a variety of ways to see that material is mastered before a student moves on. Students can learn by using strategies which work best for them. I do a lot of modeling for students to help with their understanding of material. Students can feel comfortable knowing I will work with them for as long as needed to see them progress and that I will be patient while doing so. If material is presented in a manner that students can understand and relate to it, they can achieve.
I recently took early retirement to have more time for family, however; I would still like to work with students as it has been such a big part of who I am. Working with various grades has helped me in realizing what works best at different levels. Working in special education has helped me teach so students understand what they are doing and why they are doing so when completing assignments or mastering new material. I did tutor students that I worked with as a special education resource teacher and via word of mouth, many years ago and I would enjoy doing it again.
I have taught special education classes for many years working with grades 1-8. I've worked in an alternative school and have experience with students who have been diagnosed as ADD or ADDH. I've worked with students with emotional disabilities, behavioral disabilities and students who were diagnosed with learning disabilities. I have also tutored students who I worked with during summer break and as needed.
I have worked with several students who were diagnosed with Aspergers and with autism. I have had success working with students who were school phobic and who had difficulty working without one on one assistance. I have enjoyed working with students and seeing them succeed when they have not had success before.
I am certified in special education and have worked with students with both autism and Aspergers. I realize that students learn differently and utilize strategies that work best for a particular personality. I believe students can and will learn if they understand that everyone learns differently, at a different pace and that is OK. Many students who have difficulty working in a group setting do very well when given one on one attention.
I am certified in the area of learning disabilities and have worked with many students in both general and special education classrooms. I've had success working with students who struggle with dyslexia and enjoy seeing them succeed.
I have worked with elementary students for my entire teaching career in regular education classrooms as well as self-contained special education classrooms and as a resource teacher. I work well with students and enjoy seeing them succeed in areas in which they have had to struggle. I believe there is a way to teach students so they understand what they are doing and why they are doing it rather than having them memorize for the moment and then forgetting.
I've taught reading and phonics for many years with students from first through eighth grade. I enjoy teaching students how to decode words for reading and seeing them begin to "see the light" when they read words which they would previously struggled with.
I have certification in both regular education and regular education and have worked primarily with special education students. I have worked with students identified with learning disabilities, behavior and emotional problems as well as students who have developmental delays. I have also had many students with an ADD or ADDH disability and students identified with Aspergers and autism. Working one on one with students has been helpful to many student who struggle in school.
