Hi! My name is Alexis, and I am a seasoned tutor ready to help you succeed in high school and beyond! I graduated from Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights, Illinois in the class of 2012. I was in the Top Ten of my class, ranked at number four with a weighted GPA of 4.57. I am going into my junior year at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois where, I am a Biological Sciences major on a pre-medicine track.

I have tutored many times in the past, at my high school, privately, and with a non-profit organization in the subjects of SAT/ACT prep, History, Mathematics, and Spanish. However, I am proficient in many academic areas, including mathematics (through single-variable calculus), science (biology and chemistry), Spanish (through intermediate level with advanced grammar) and SAT and ACT prep. Furthermore, I am very excited to be working with young people who are enthusiastic about making the most out of their education. A mind is a terrible thing to waste; so let's rock and learn!

ACT English

I am a voracious reader of all genres, scholarly and secular. I have taken honors English classes during my freshman and sophomore year and AP English Language and AP English Literature during my junior and senior year of high school where I maintained an A average all four years. On my ACT English, I achieved a score of 35. On my SAT Reading, I achieved a score of 730. At Northwestern University, I took two freshman writing seminars that also emphasized critical reading and obtained an A in both. Furthermore, I have taken Intro to 20th Century American Literature and Introduction to Russian Literature and earned an A- and B+ respectively. I am enthusiastic to teach my love of reading to others along with the strategies and tricks necessary to conquer the challenges that advanced literature can bring.

ACT Math

I received a score of 28 on ACT Math. I have taken mathematics classes (through single-variable calculus) consistently through my freshman year of college and have maintained an A- average as well. Taking math through high school was a great experience for me as I had a teacher who was very clear, patient, and most of all, nurturing and encouraging. I would love to provide this for a student so that they foster the same sense of enjoyment for math that I have.

Algebra 1

I have taken mathematics classes (through single-variable calculus) consistently through my freshman year of college and have maintained an A- average as well. Taking Algebra 1 in my freshman year of high school was a great experience for me as I had a teacher who was very clear, patient, and most of all, nurturing and encouraging. I would love to provide this for a student so that they foster the same sense of enjoyment for math that I have.

Algebra 2

I have taken mathematics classes (through single-variable calculus) consistently through my freshman year of college and have maintained an A- average as well. Taking Algebra 2 in my junior year of high school was an informative experience for me because I was able to unravel several of the intricacies that life has designed. I would love to provide this for a student so that they foster the same sense of enjoyment for math that I have.

American History

I have maintained an A average in history classes for my entire life. I have also taken AP US History during my junior year of high school where I received an A for the year and a score of 3 on my AP Exam. If we do not learn from our mistakes in the past, there will be no future in my opinion; so let's get learning today!

Biology

I have taken Honors Biology and AP Biology in high school, both of which I obtained A's in. I received a 4 on my AP Biology test. Furthermore, I am a Biology major at Northwestern University and subsequently, have done much of the legwork required for advanced biology courses.

Chemistry

I am well acquainted with high school level chemistry and general chemistry in college. I have taken Honors Chemistry and AP Chem in high school, where I received A's in both classes and a 4 on my AP Exam. I passed my general chemistry sequence and am enrolled in the organic chemistry series at Northwestern.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a practiced tutor in the areas of elementary (K-6th) subjects as I have assisted my neighbors, who are now in high school and middle school, with their homework since they were in 1st and 3rd grade. We have covered everything from the beginning of reading, including phonics, to prealgebra. I am very patient and flexible as I realize that every learner is different. As such, I am sensitive to the varying ways that people acquire knowledge and adjust myself accordingly.

Reading

I am a voracious reader of all genres, scholarly and secular. I have taken honors English classes during my freshman and sophomore year and AP English Language and AP English Literature during my junior and senior year of high school where I maintained an A average all four years.

Spanish

I have taken Spanish for 6+ years. I scored a 4 on my AP Spanish Language exam and I placed out of the foreign language requirement at Northwestern University.
