As an ESL instructor and social worker, I believe it is essential to teach in a two-way, relational style. That is, while I may have certain knowledge and experience, I believe that it is the student's role to direct our work just as much as it is mine. I am interested in understanding what my students want to learn and how they would most benefit in their learning processes. Each individual has a unique learning style, and it is critical for me to adapt lessons to those styles in order to enhance the outcomes.

I currently teach conversational English, business English, and academic English online to people in China. Before that, I tutored adults from Spain in small groups in business and conversational English.

I have taught English to children, teens, and adults in India, Guatemala, and the U.S. I have tutored teens and young children in Spanish. I have tutored a 13-year old with autism in math and reading. In addition, I am highly proficient in speaking Spanish. In all of my teaching, I had to really use my creativity to make learning fun. I promise to bring that same enthusiasm to our tutoring sessions!

On a personal note, my interests are travel, scuba diving, healthy cooking, hiking, kayaking, reading, crossword puzzles, salsa dancing, painting, plant medicine, alternative healing, and enjoying life!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Cooking

Self-taught healthy cook and blogger. I teach students simple ways to integrate more color and plant-based foods into their nutrition plan whatever their dietary preferences may be. I have a small catering business at this time in which I prepare healthy lunches for busy people.

Yoga

I have been practicing yoga for 15 years and am currently completing my yoga teacher certification in the best program in Chicago. I have a strong understanding of anatomy. I also have a background in social work and one of my passions is using yoga as a tool to manage anxiety and heal trauma.
