As you can see by my title, I am a bit of a logophile...
That aside, I've done a great deal of tutoring, and have come to realize that there is simply no substitute for thorough, patient, one-on-one attention for a student who needs academic assistance. My experience ranges from
tutoring pre-k to elementary aged children in language arts/phonics as well as an ESL native-Spanish speaking
adult. I also peer-tutored students in writing at DePaul University at the beginning of my undergraduate career. Additionally, last Autumn I began tutoring at 826 CHI, a local organization which emphasizes the importance of
language skills as a springboard for creativity and academic achievement.
When I tutor a client, I thoughtfully customize a curriculum and make adjustments according to the precise needs
of the student. My approach places careful emphasis on retention for long-term learning, since it's one thing to memorize dates and yet another to develop a connection to the material. I enjoy implementing fun techniques, which engender positive and effective learning outcomes. I believe that a truly enriching environment which provides meaning beyond the assignment creates the best possible academic experience. Language arts, literature, linguistics and etymology are true passions for me, which translates into success for my clients.
