I completed my M.A. to become a Reading Specialist through Concordia University with a G.P.A. of 3.96. I hold a type 10 Illinois teaching certificate. In the subject of reading, I am trained in a variety of informal assessments, which can be useful to gather information about the student's strengths and areas of need. I've taken a number of courses dealing with strategies to improve reading comprehension, phonemic awareness, phonics skills and attitudes toward reading. For learning disabilities such as dyslexia, I have completed training in the Orton-Gillingham method through the Institute for Multi-Sensory Education. I have a strong base of knowledge in the reading field and can help struggling readers improve significantly.
I am a current Reading and Math Interventionist teacher working with students from Kindergarten to 7th grade. Additionally, I have over 10 years of experience as a Montessori and first grade teacher. In the past three years, I have also tutored privately. In my evaluations, I am commonly told I have high creativity, coupled with patience and strong observational skills.
I can tutor at your home, public library or my house. Due to my schedule, I cannot travel more than 5 miles from my house. At this time, I am able to tutor on weekdays after 6 p.m. and weekends. My schedule will open up in the summer.
Please contact me for more information. I am an excellent, dedicated tutor and I welcome the opportunity to meet you and your child.
