Hi,

My name is Stacy. I am an accounting professional with an MBA degree looking to help students with their subjects. I have tutored students in different grades and subjects for over 15 years, including students going for their GEDs in Chicago. I can help with accounting, general math, pre-algebra, algebra, reading, vocabulary, and spelling.

I'm in the New Lenox area. My one requirement is the student needs to be someone who is eager to learn.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Accounting

I can help with beginning accounting courses.

Spelling

I passed the certification at 100%. I really enjoy spelling. I believe games like Scrabble and Word on the Street really help people become better spellers.

Study Skills

I have taken study skills classes in high school and also on the job to learn effective time management. Also, when I was an auditor, I was co-teacher of a study skills/time management class that incoming associates took as part of training. As an auditor, one must have good time management skills, which goes hand in hand with study skills. The key to effective study skills is to be organized and to make a plan of attack. The first thing to do is to list what you need to accomplish and how much time you have to accomplish those things. After doing so, you can start your plan of attack. I always tell students to work on their easiest subject first. Also, when working on a subject, it is important to first review the key concepts/objectives and/or questions so they have an idea of what they should grasp from the material before diving in. Then they can take notes as they go along. Study skills are an essential part of life and they cannot be taught from a book. I am a mother, a professional, a student and a tutor so I have many different jobs. Study and organization skills help me stay focused and utilize my time effectively. Another point is the same study skills don't work for everyone. Students work in different ways so you have to see how they work and modify methods accordingly--where lists and tables might work for one person, highlighting in a book or brainstorming might work for another. Also, some people need complete quiet while others need noise. Still others just don't know how to organize to stay focused.
