Thank you for taking the time to read my profile!

In 2011, I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) with a Bachelor of Science degree in neuroscience, with highest departmental distinction. Aside from studying for classes, I engaged in several research projects in the fields of neurology, psychology, and transplant surgery. In 2013, I performed research in microbiology and motor dysfunctions at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. I am currently a second year medical student at Midwestern University - Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Downers Grove, IL.

While at UIC, I also received a civic engagement leadership certificate for spearheading volunteer service projects in Chicago Public Schools and After School Matters programs in poverty-stricken neighborhoods of Chicago. For many of these projects, I served as a tutor and mentor for students. Through these projects and the roles I played, I discovered my passion for teaching. There is something very rewarding to me in watching students go through their thought process one step at a time and ultimately arrive at the correct answer. To me, the role of a tutor is to guide students to the proper steps. While doing so, the tutor should investigate where errors may be occurring and explain why it is an error. I have practiced this approach for over two years of tutoring at all levels- K-12 and college- and it has had remarkable results.

I understand that you have many tutoring options and want to find a tutor who is right for you or your student. If you have any questions about my approach or would like to know more, please do not hesitate to contact me!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have an array of experience working with K-6th grade students. Within the Chicago Public Schools system, I volunteered as a tutor at five separate elementary and middle schools. Through those experiences, I learned that working with elementary and middle school aged students requires unique skills, such as being patient, encouraging, and motivating. After spending several semesters tutoring these students, I feel I have developed such skills. In conjunction with my strong academic foundation, I am confident I can help your student succeed and excel!

Organic Chemistry

After taking Organic Chemistry I and II and receiving As in both courses, I began tutoring Orgo in the Honors College of my undergraduate university. There, I helped tutor students in the concepts and mechanisms that often make understanding the subject difficult. My approach with tutoring Orgo is to help the student comprehend the concepts and work to apply this knowledge to tackle difficult problems.

Very knowledgeable and always makes himself available for us. — Sarung is really great. He is very knowledgeable and can explain the concepts in a way my daughter understands. He also works incredibly hard to accommodate our schedule. He was away for the weekend, but met with us on his way home from the airport on Sunday night (from 9 to 10pm) so my daughter would be ready for a test the following day. He is always prompt, courteous and engaged! ...
