“Learning was never boring with Mrs. Maureen.” “She explains things in a way that I can understand.”“My child never complained about going to school with Mrs. Maureen as the teacher.” “She always took the time to be thorough and answer all my questions and concerns.”
These are some of the many positive comments I heard repeatedly from parents and teachers in my 20 years experience teaching elementary school, both general education and special education. I have taught grades 3, 4, and 5. I have taught students with ADHD, learning disabilities, cognitive impairments, and autism. I have taught gifted students. And no matter what the setting, I use positive feedback, engaging lessons, and lessons that meet the student where he/she is at. I believe that engaging the child through his/her natural interests and curiosity is the best way to inspire learning. I believe that all children deserve to be challenged and when given support, he/she can meet those challenges. I believe children feel success when doing things that are difficult for them; and this success builds their self esteem. Through all my interactions with children, nurturing their self esteem by supporting their learning growth is essential. I look forward to the opportunity to work with your child.
