College Professor Tutoring in Business & Technology

I'm a teacher who enjoys the aha moments when new information, ideas, and concepts are understood for the first time. I believe in applied learning, which means we learn best when we can apply theory in a very practical, and when applicable, hands-on way. I believe in setting high expectations and having fun trying to achieve them.

In addition to tutoring, I am a professor for DeVry University, teaching undergraduate and graduate coursework in Career Development, Business, and Web Graphic Design. My professional experience is rooted in applying business and technology to provide superior outcomes. Whenever possible, lessons I’ve learned in my professional life are integrated into my teaching.

I have a B.A. in Sociology and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Colorado at Boulder. I am on track to complete a graduate certificate in Applied Statistics by the end of 2013.

Algebra 1

My two favorite math topics are Algebra and Statistics. The concepts in both are valuable in everyday life and especially valuable in business. Often I find that students struggle with Algebra for one of two reasons.

Microsoft Excel

I am a self proclaimed Excel Guru and Data Cruncher extraordinary! While I use the entire Microsoft Office suite in my day-to-day work, I have earned the most accolades for the work I’ve done in Excel. It is a truly powerful took that can be used for a million different projects. As a tutor, I can provide you both the technical knowledge to use the application as well as tons of real-world uses for Excel.

Microsoft PowerPoint

Microsoft PowerPoint is the bread-and-butter of modern day college professors and business training professionals. I just so happen to be both, and have created some pretty incredible PowerPoint decks in the process. Utilizing my graphic design background I can teach you the technology and some design principles to ensure your PowerPoint decks are functional and attractive.

Adobe Illustrator

Adobe Illustrator is one of the first graphic design applications I learned, and it is still one of my most favorite. Whenever I teach Web Graphic Design courses at DeVry, the Pen tool is one of the most challenging concepts for students to understand initially. However, after I walk them through several fun exercises using the tool, they often learn to love it as much as I do.

Web Design

I have done freelance web design for more than 5 years. I utilize Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator) to help manage the web design process for my clients. In addition, I am a professor for DeVry University and teach Web Graphic Design courses that focus on developing competency in utilizing Dreamweaver for web design.

Business

I love just about everything about business—from the strategic planning to the execution. I especially enjoy applying business principles to managing individual careers. Dreamweaver

I have done freelance web design for more then 5 years. I utilize Dreamweaver to help manage the web design process for my clients. In addition, I am a professor for DeVry University and teach Web Graphic Design courses that focus on developing competency in utilizing Dreamweaver for web design.

Microsoft Access

I have been designing MS Access databases for the last 5 years as part of my professional responsibilities for DeVry University. This includes importing external data files and creating new tables from design view; creating new select, make table, append, crosstab, delete, and union queries; creating new forms, reports, and macros. Within these objects I utilize functions, sorts, and criteria to help manipulate data.

Microsoft Outlook

I have been utilizing Microsoft Outlook as a key productivity application for more than 8 years in my professional responsibilities. I utilize the mail, calendar, tasks, and contact features on a daily basis. I also utilize Microsoft Communicator and Microsoft Live Meeting as extended features of Outlook.

Sociology

I have a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and M.B.A. with a focus in Organizational Behavior.
