Besides working professionally in traditional print publishing, I specialize in academic tutoring for high school and college prep students, particularly those looking to expand their skills in English, reading, language arts, writing, and history. I have training in ACT, SAT, ISEE, HSPT, COOP, Terra Nova, ISAT, and EXPLORE Test strategy and method, and I used to work as a certified College Admissions Counselor (NACAC). If your student is looking to write a killer college application, I have read thousands and worked with many students to improve their chances of getting into their "dream school."
After working on the college side, I began working as a private tutor for grades K-12 in 2009. I have a BA in History and Creative Writing from a highly selective college in Illinois, one of the official "Colleges That Change Lives" (Loren Pope) and that designation is one that I use to drive my passion for helping students reach their full potential and find, impress, and ultimately attend the college that will change their lives. Having worked with group tutoring in the past, I believe that one-on-one tutoring is an unbeatable experience and that supplementing schoolwork with focused tutoring and engagement with a student's interests and abilities is the clearest path to academic (and life!) success.
Outside of my interest in tutoring and education, I am a published writer and cultural anthropologist. The impact of guided independent learning and attention to detail, especially in learning thematic concepts and synthesis in academic materials, utterly shaped my life, and it's a joy to see students' eyes light up in understanding when they make a breakthrough of their own.
