In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have successfully passed the Special Education General Curriculum test as well as the Learning Behavior Specialist I test through the Educator Certification System. My graduate coursework includes the following courses: "Characteristics of Students with Special Needs" and "Instruction Methods in Special Education." Also, I have seven years' experience supporting students with learning challenges (which include ADHD) in Mount Prospect School District 57.

Aspergers

I have completed my graduate coursework for a type 10 (special education) teaching certificate. Also, I have passed both the Learning Behavior Specialist I (LBSI)and Special Education Content Area tests through the Educator Certification System (ECS) in Illinois.

In addition, I have over seven years experience working with students with autism spectrum learning differences.

Autism

For the past two years, I have served as a 1:1 aide for a student with autism at the middle school level (School Dist. 57). During this time, I have successfully completed professional development courses in Autism (in-district) as well as the graduate level courses: Autism/Pervasive Developmental Disorders and Characteristics/Strategies-Mild/Moderate/Severe Learning Disorders through Quincy University.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have completed my graduate coursework to obtain a type 10 (K-12) teaching certificate. Also I have completed more than 80 observation hours at an elementary school where I gained experience teaching K-5th grade students.

Microsoft Windows

I have worked on Microsoft windows software applications for over 15 years and am a proficient user. As a compensation analyst for over four years, I created Microsoft excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations and word processing documents daily.

Special Needs

As a graduate student in education, I have successfully completed my coursework (51 credit hours) towards a type 10 teaching certificate. I have passed the Special Education General Curriculum Test as well as the Learning Behavior Specialist I Test through the IL Education Certification System. Also, I have seven years experience supporting special needs students (grades 3-8).

Study Skills
