I believe a tutor’s purpose is to prepare their students with the skills needed to be successful in the future. Each student has his or her own needs, therefore, it is the tutor’s job to recognize those needs and fulfill them to their greatest potential. A tutor should do this by remaining open-minded, dedicated, and passionate. Students succeed the most when they have high yet obtainable expectations set for them. Tutors owe it to their students to be consistent, supportive, and confident in the levels that students can reach in their sessions.
In my undergraduate experience I was a supplemental instructor for a math course through our tutoring center at Illinois State University. This experience made me realize how beneficial it is to have a tutor. I held supplemental instruction sessions 3 times per week with anywhere from 10-60 students. This experience allowed me to see material and be able to present it in many different ways. Variety of the presentation of material may be all a student needs to succeed.
Being a teacher, I have many tricks in my bag and would love to help out anyone who needs it. I am a very patient and organized person who is constantly try to build professionally.
