Hello!
Let me start out with a little about myself. I grew up in the Chicagoland area and am a product of the public school system from ages 4-17. I graduated from Prospect High School in Mount Prospect, IL in 1987. While there I was a member of the tennis team, soccer team, math team, chess team, debate team, National Honor Society and an Illinois State Scholar.
I went on to college at the University of Illinois and eventually to medical school in India. Along the way I won a few other awards, the most notable being 1st place in a national essay competition on Alzheimer's disease that was sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO). After completing my education, I helped to start a hospital in India and continue to help in managing it.
The reason that I tutor is that I love helping people learn things. I believe we are all continually learning. The key, however, is to somehow make it interesting. I realize some things are particularly dry or boring, and not all subjects are appealing to everyone. The basis of success in our society, however, is premised on education and hard work. So sometimes we have to muddle through some subjects that just aren't that thrilling. Other times we just want to know as much as we possibly can about a subject because we are extremely interested. Either way, I hope that I can be of service to you or your child.
I have tutored a wide age group of students ranging from elementary school students through medical school students. My goal in tutoring is to enable a way of thinking and understanding so that, when faced with a similar situation in the future, the student will be able to tackle the issue on their own. Sometimes this isn't as quick a remedy as solving the problem for the student. I feel, however, that this approach will better serve the student in the long run. Learning a thought process and cultivating good habits - both mechanical and intellectual - are very important for long term success.
I will not do any student's homework for him/her while he/she simply watches. My goal is to enable the student to have the skills and confidence to eventually no longer need my services. That can not be accomplished if I keep spoon feeding them the answers. There has to be a willingness on the part of the student to learn. What I can do is to make it easy to understand and learn.
We will outline your goals and timetable from the onset. It is my intent that our efforts will result in meeting or exceeding them. I hope you will give me the opportunity to help you or your child with their educational aspirations.
