Hi! My name is Peggy M. I am excited to have an opportunity to be your tutor. I love to help children reach their goals and feel successful in school. I taught in New Lenox School District for 13 years. I have a bachelors degree from Saint Francis University (1999), and also a masters degree in Education Administration from Governor State University (2009). I also have 18 credit hours in special education and an endorsement in special education administration. I taught first grade for 11 years, third grade for one year, and six grade for a 1/2 year when I was asked to be the interim assistant principal for two schools. I have tutored independently for the 13 years I have taught. I resigned from my position to go back to school to become a psychologist to work with students and families who have depression and/or any type of mental illness. I love being able to work one-on-one with a student or in a small group.
As a teacher I was completely involved in the school and loved learning and being a part of new ways to assist children in their educational career. I was a team leader, on various curriculum committees, on the district autism team, PTO teacher representative, a recipient of the district award Those Who Make A Difference, and Who's Who in Education.
My style for teaching is to work with children as an individual. Not every child learns the same way. Differentiation is the key to helping a child succeed in the classroom. I also believe that making learning fun and giving students tools to be successful will make them want to learn and it will not be a chore for them when completing school work. I believe all students can learn and be successful in school, but you need to tap into their likes, dislikes, social skills and so much more to bring out an individual child's strengths. I love to see when the door has opened and the light is shining through showing in a child's mind. There is nothing better than seeing the child who feels confident because they are finally understanding how to process the information and it is making sense to them.
I love working with children and look forward to making learning fun and relevant. I would love the opportunity to work with your child.
