Marquette University (Physiological Sci.)
Loyola University Chicago (Master's)
Currently, I am a first-year medical student at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, taking courses in anatomy, physiology, cell biology, and host defense (immunology).
I earned my Master's degree in medical sciences from Loyola University in May 2013. To earn this degree, I have taken and earned high marks in many courses in biology, chemistry, and physics. As a student myself, I can help other students to foster better study habits as they are learning information. Apart from this, I have a solid foundation in the sciences that I will use to assist students in their academic endeavors.
Beyond my education in the sciences, I also have studied Spanish for years, both in the classroom and out in the world. I studied in Madrid, Spain while completing my undergraduate coursework. I have also spent time in Guatemala assisting at a medical clinic. For years I have worked and volunteered in healthcare using my Spanish language skills for medical interpretation. I enjoy speaking Spanish, and have enjoyed teaching it to others as well. Currently, I teach medical Spanish to first-year medical students. I was so glad when my son told me, "Mom I am not behind on homework anymore, and I started to understand Spanish better!" Mr. Trent takes his time to teach my son in a way that my son doesn't hate Spanish class any more! Praise God! Great job Trent.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I earned a master's degree in Medical Sciences in May of 2013, which required many rigorous biological sciences courses. I have taken courses in cell biology, genetics, animal development, anatomy, physiology, etc. Also, I have taught biology laboratory courses at the university level.
I grew up learning Spanish in school. My preschool teacher was Spanish speaking, and she would teach me words and phrases to begin my Spanish education. Later on, I moved to Texas, where it is mandatory for students to learn Spanish. This really improved my Spanish language skills and inspired me to continue learning Spanish. In college, one of my majors was Spanish, and I also had the opportunity to live in Madrid, Spain for six months during my undergraduate studies. Currently, I volunteer at a clinic in which I speak to many Spanish-speaking patients about their health and treatment plans. This is a continuation of the work I preformed as an English-Spanish medical interpreter and the work I did while living in Guatemala.
