I'm a retired teacher with over 25 years combined experience in classroom teaching, tutoring, sewing and knitting. I have 8 years experience tutoring all ages. Before that I had classroom experience in grades 1 through 8. Teaching one on one is what I do best, but I am willing to work with small groups as well. Elementary math, spelling, English grammar, reading, vocabulary building, phonics and reading comprehension are my areas of expertise. I offer homework support in those subjects as well as supplemental studies for students who need to get caught up. Homework support in elementary science, social studies, history, and geography is also offered.

I also offer how-to lessons in sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting and needlepoint. I have been sewing and knitting professionally for 4 years. I'm very patient, so whether you have no experience or used to do a little, I can help you fulfill you dream of, "I always wanted to learn to do that."
I am very patient and treat my students with respect. I encourage students to learn how to think for themselves so that they can become problem solvers, intuitive and unafraid to try something new.

Bible Studies

I was a Bible quizzer as a teenager, so it was natural for me to coach Bible quizzing when my own children came of age. My husband and I coached our local teams for eight years. My husband is still heavily involved in Bible quizzing at the highest levels of competition, so this activity remains an integral part of our family life. I completed over 20 hours of Bible studies subjects in college, taught Sunday School classes and led Bible studies.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a State of Illinois teaching certificate for grades K-9. I have a BA degree in Elementary Education. I have over 10 years of classroom experience, and 8 years of tutoring experience. I have experience teaching phonics, reading comprehension, vocabulary building, grammar, spelling and math. I have experience teaching ages 5 through adult.

I have certificate to teach all subjects K-9. I have over 10 years experience teaching and tutoring math skills including basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Skill sets also include fractions, decimals, integers, basic geometry and pre algebra.

I own a custom sewing and knitting business online. I have over 20 years experience in sewing, knitting and crocheting. I have led several classes teaching people how to crochet and various needlepoint skills. I can teach the basic through advanced techniques. I teach students how to apply lessons to practical use so that they feel they've accomplished something right from the start. I use a learn-by-doing approach that layers skill levels progressively.

I have 8 years experience tutoring phonics including alphabet letter recognition, regular and irregular vowels, consonants (including hard/soft /c/ and /g/), consonant blends, consonant digraphs, prefixes, suffixes and syllabication.

Learning to read involves several skill sets. The first step is to assess what basic phonics skills need to be mastered. At the same time it is important to build basic vocabulary skills. Mastering these two skill sets will help the reader overcome difficulty recognizing how to read new words and will make reading more fluent. Reading fluency results in better comprehension, efficient use of study time, and is more enjoyable for the reader. I'm a firm believer in practice makes perfect. I encourage students to become daily readers with the hope that reading will be less of a chore and more enjoyable.

I have over 20 years experience in personal, home and professional sewing. I have been sewing professionally for 4 years. I have licenses to make and sell environmentally friendly incontinence products. I use a practical approach in my lessons so that students are creating useful projects from the start while they learn different techniques. Students may choose from a wide range of skills from basic sewing machine use to making garments, home decor and quilting.

She has captured my grand daughter ! The reports I get back from my granddaughter have been very positive! Didn't know for sure how receptive she would be and be able to relate. But I am very happy with everything. Study habits are important. The one on one that Brandy gives has shown a positive improvement in my granddaughter's attitude about school work. ...
