Hello! My name is Colleen! I am an Elmhurst College graduate, receiving a Bachelor's in Psychology with minors in Theatre and Criminal Justice. I am currently getting my Certification in Addictions Counseling at the College of DuPage. I want to be a psychologist, once I finish all of my schooling. In my college career, I was a Teacher's Assistant (TA) for my professor's Statistics class Spring 2011. I graded their assignments as well as helped students with Statistics homework. I also conducted a research experiment my last semester at Elmhurst College; this experiment was theatre related, focusing on the psychology of actors during the play process. I used SPSS and other experimental tests in this experiment. I followed APA guidelines for writing my experiment papers and every paper for psychology-related classes. and Being a psychology major, I have taken many cognitive processing classes, thus am good teaching studying skills.
My theatre experience is extensive, but some highlights are acting in MainStage plays (Rhinoceros, Stage Door, The Sound of Music, Carousel, Grapes of Wrath to list examples), acting studios, directing a one act (called Cinnamon Rainbow), props designing for two plays, and scenic designing one play (called The Birthday Party). . Some classes encompassed in my Theatre minor are World Theatre and Literature, Avant Garde Theatre, Development of Theatre, and Directing.
I teach using visuals and repetition. I also teach by using memory tricks relatable to the subject at hand. After each lesson, I assign small homework assignments and periodically test the students on the material. I am flexible with time, but I do ask for a 24 hour cancelation notice. I am willing to travel to student's houses if needed, but am also available to meet in another public area such as Elmhurst College or College of DuPage.
Because I am an eternal student, I understand how hard it can be to be motivated in completing school work. I want to help motivate students accomplish their dreams in life through helping them with school work and applying for colleges. Being a theatre kid, I like to make everything a fun time, including school! I can't wait to meet you and help you achieve success in your studies!

Psychology

I have conducted four experiments in my at Elmhurst College career. The last experiment I conducted was a research experiment my last semester; this experiment was theatre related, focusing on the psychology of actors during the play process. I used SPSS and other experimental tests in this experiment. I followed APA guidelines for writing my experiment papers and every paper for psychology-related classes. I am currently gaining my certification in addictions counseling, thus have kept up practicing writing in APA style.

Sociology

I am qualified to tutor in this subject because of its close relation to psychology and criminal justice. I've taken many classes such as Majority/Minority Relations (studying how these groups function in society), Intercultural Communications, Social Psychology, and Intracultural Communications, studying how cultures and individuals in said cultures function in society and other groups in society. My Criminology class also focused on theories of crime in society as a whole. My schooling in Addictions counseling has taught me how to handle social groups and individuals as well as managing groups. My experiments involving research methods students and student actors have also displayed sociological theory and testing. I would tutor in this subject by creating study tools for repetition studying and using real-life issues as examples to emphasize sociological terms.

Excellent at putting together an appropriate plan The help Colleen provided was excellent. I had very specific needs to pass this course. She is a good listener and was able to put together a very appropriate plan. She stayed with me throughout the whole process like a partner. She is a good resource and excellent with follow up. She gave me the confidence to do well. I highly recommend her for those of us studying behavioral science. Thanks, C ...
