Combining seven years' experience in the high school classroom with a strong communications background and interpersonal skills, I can best help your student in need of mathematics assistance. Earning a perfect score on both the English and Math portions of the ACT, I received a mathematics degree from North Central College. After working in mass media for several years, I moved to the Washington DC area and trained to be a teacher, and I spent seven great years in the field, instructing both small and large groups in nearly every mathematics course at the high school level: from algebra and geometry to calculus and statistics, with many courses in between.
When students come to me for help, I strive to find their current level and set goals with them. Not only is it important for a student to achieve their immediate goals, but the knowledge they take home from me should stick with them; in mathematics, each course builds from others, and students should build the best foundations they can. Use of a graphing calculator can be a blessing and a curse, and it's essential that students recognize how calculators can both help and hinder them in their quest to understand mathematics, the true universal language.
