Here’s my short list of favorite strategies for the ACT:

1. When you learned to speak English, no one gave you a set of rules. You learned by listening. You can hear the correct answer as well! If it sounds wrong, it is. Find the choice that sounds the best.
2. The folks at ACT like sentences that are clear and concise. Look for the shortest, clearest way to say something.
3. The same goes for commas. If a comma is underlined or in the answer choices, exaggerate the pause that a comma signals. If it sounds right, it is. If you wouldn’t pause, don’t use a comma. As a general rule,...
