I am a college professor with over 10 years of teaching experience in high school, undergraduate, and graduate education. My background includes completion of a formal university-based teacher education program in secondary social studies education. I have taught a wide range of undergraduate courses at two different institutions of higher education. I am also an experienced one-on-one tutor and rely a great deal on individualized instruction as part of my broader teaching philosophy. I have both a Master's and a Ph.D. in sociology. As a social scientist, I also conduct research on instructional practice among teachers throughout K-12 education.
I believe very strongly that teaching is most effective when it is relevant, engaging, and fun for students. Regardless of topic, I always try to connect new knowledge and material that I'm teaching to everyday things with which students are already familiar. Moreover, my goal for students is always to contribute to their overall improvement and development. I provide for all students with whom I work a set of achievable, cumulative goals in their subject matter, and set them on a clear path for attaining such goals. In my work as a college professor, I teach a lot of first- and second-year students, helping them make successful transitions into college and putting them on a path to graduation. As such, I am intimately familiar with the knowledge and skills that K-12 students need to develop in order for them to be college ready.
I can tutor students in social studies and the social sciences broadly, as well as in writing and reading skills across a wide range of student backgrounds and skills. Additionally, I can tutor students in reading, writing, and math from elementary grades through high school. I can also tutor students with preparation for exams such as the ACT, SAT, GED, Praxis, and GRE.
Please do not hesitate to contact me so that I might be able to help you (or your child) along your particular educational trajectory.
I am a Ph.D.-holding college professor with ten years' teaching experience. I teach undergraduate and graduate courses every semester, which obviously require effective public speaking skills. I am also an active researcher, and regularly present my research to faculty at professional conferences and invited presentations. Moreover, I teach a graduate course on instructional technique, and therefore have experience teaching people how to craft lectures and deliver them effectively to audiences large and small.
I have both a Master's and a Ph.D. in sociology. I earned both degrees in the Department of Sociology at Indiana University, a graduate program that is ranked in the top 15 nationally in the discipline. I have ten years of teaching experience in undergraduate and graduate sociology courses at two institutions of higher education.
I have a Ph.D. in the social sciences, and ten years' teaching experience at the college level. I regularly teach first- and second-year college students who need individual instruction, and most of the time I'm helping them develop effective study skills. I have also taught high school students, and have tutored students to become college ready through their study practices.
