Hello! I am currently a student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign majoring in biochemistry, and I am very excited to spend time this summer tutoring students in the nearby area. In high school, I was a peer tutor for several students consistently, and I graduated from the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy in 2012. I have tutored in ACT (Score: 34) and SAT preparation, mathematics, chemistry, and German I. Through this experience, I spent over 300 hours over four years helping classmates who struggled with certain concepts pinpoint exactly where they were having difficulty. I feel that after these four years, I have become more patient with all the students I tutor, especially the ones in younger grades.
One particular example that sticks out to me is a friend who had to miss her first semester of junior year of high school due to a family issue. When she returned to school, I helped her work through geometry and Algebra II material almost every day for two and a half months of the semester. She told me that she had previously struggled in this material but now felt much more confident with the classes. I felt so humbled and rewarded that I was able to use my time and efforts to help her.
I would like to use this opportunity as a way to communicate with students and instill confidence in each student. My goal as a one-on-one tutor is to meet the needs of you or your child's learning style. Tutoring is a very valuable part of my life, because it helps me afford my own educational goals while being able to help others with theirs. I am available on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays this summer and have a flexible schedule on these three days. I also do not charge for the first hour of tutoring so you and/or your child have some time to decide if you would like to continue. I try to keep my rates as low as possible, as I truly believe that a quality education should be accessible for students of all backgrounds. I look forward to meeting you, and please feel free to reach out to me with any questions!
I have provided several other students near my age and below with tutoring relevant to the ACT English section. I am very familiar with the structure and type of questions associated with this part of the test, and I have put together several strategies to help students approach the type of questions that are asked on the ACT English portion.
I have provided several other students near my age and below with tutoring relevant to the ACT Math section. I am very familiar with the structure and type of questions associated with this part of the test, and I have put together several strategies to help students approach the type of questions that are asked on the ACT Math portion. I have 48 peer tutor hours for ACT Math Tutoring.
I have tutored students in Algebra I material since 2009. The most memorable experience I have had with Algebra I tutoring was when I helped two students in the grade below me bring their grades up from a C- borderline grade to an A- by the end of the semester.
I've provided 35 hours in peer Algebra II Honors Tutoring.

I have taken Differential Equations (Basic and Advanced levels) and will be a tutor for Differential Equations at my college campus next semester. I have put together multiple study guides and strategies for the class for myself and a few fellow students.
I have taken Basic and Advanced Organic Chemistry and Lab and now tutor all of these at my campus, UIUC. I have experience helping students prepare for organic chemistry finals, and can teach this subject on the high school and college level.
I have over 300 hours of peer tutor experience from sixth grade to now, my second year of college. I have learned how to identify the needs of students in order to provide them with the best study and test-taking strategies. I am especially experienced with providing standardized test taking skills.
Very patient, kind, and knowledgeable — Sonya is a very kind compassionate person with an excellent grasp of the material she tutors. She helped me out greatly in the time period leading up to, and through my summer finals. I would highly recommend her to anyone, especially anyone who struggles with anxiety along with their studies. Great tutor. ...
