I am dedicated to the institution of learning and believe that everyone is capable of achieving their fullest potential when given the right opportunities to do so. Often times, learning does not come easy to some individuals; however, when given the proper tools we can all exceed beyond our wildest dreams. Some of us may need just a point in the right direction, while others may need a hand to hold until we are able to walk on our own. Whatever the case may be, tutoring has the ability to make a world of difference in anyone's life when given the chance. I currently work in special education at a local high school and have a Masters in Psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I have worked along side the Cleveland Clinic Center for Autism as an in-home tutor for a child with Autism. I have also done plenty of tutoring and volunteer work with a variety of individuals from all different types of backgrounds. I would consider myself to be very knowledgeable in the field of social sciences. I am easy going and believe that education has the possibility to open many doors in an individuals life.I am very much invested in my education and hope to invest my knowledge in those whom are looking to get the most out of their education.
Working with the special education population in a high school environment for the last 2 year has taught me many things about myself and my students. I realize that patients is something that can be ever growing within oneself. I have also learned that with a little aspiration and perspiration great things can be achieved from anyone, despite their disabilities. I have worked with a large variety of individuals including those with ADD/ADHD. Along with my work experience I have also achieved a Master's degree in Psychology with a concentration in Adolescent Psychology. I enjoy working with students and more then anything I love to help others achieve academic success. I see education as a key to unlocking the hidden mysteries behind every individuals potential.
My experiences with individuals on the Autism spectrum rages a great deal. I have worked one-on-one with a child exhibiting severe autistic traits and in a high school setting with all different types of individuals on the spectrum. I have worked alongside the Cleveland Clinic's Center for Autism and have had extensive training in my education on how to address the needs and deficit areas that affect an individual with Aspergers.
I have worked as an in-home behavioral and cognitive tutor for a child on the severe end of the Autism spectrum. Supervised by the Cleveland Clinic Center for Autism, I was responsible for working on improving the child's daily life skills through ABA training. I went through a training seminar at the Cleveland Clinic Center for Autism and received a certification upon completion. I have also worked with a variety of students in a high school setting in Grayslake. Furthermore, I have done volunteer work with the Round Lake Park Districts Special Recreation Camp over the summer. Lastly, I have done volunteer work with a local Speech Pathologist in order to better understand the speech difficulties that students with disabilities have to overcome.
Even though Sociology is not my major I did minor in it and have just as much interest in it as I do with Psychology. As an undergrad I gravitated to social psychology courses and ended up receiving a minor in Sociology. Social sciences are my favorite topics to study and learn more about. I am constantly keeping updated on current sociological trends and find a great passion for studying my surrounding at all times. I have a great appreciation for sociology and believe that it plays a large role in everything we encounter on a daily basis.
Since I first studied Psychology as an undergrad I have been interested in working with the Special needs population. My education in psychology has opened up many doors for me to work with students in this population and has provided me with the opportunity to do a job that I actually appreciate. I understand that not every individual is the same, especially when dealing with the special education population. I approach every encounter with individuals whom have special needs as a chance to teach my skills to an individual who needs them and as a learning tool for them to teach me as well. I currently work with the special education population at a high school and would like to expand my services to those who are outside of the school setting.
