Governors State University English Graduate

Well, this is me ... I am an African-American female, a second year graduate student at GSU - currently pursuing my Master's in Education Administration, I received my Associate's in Arts degree from Joliet Junior College and my BA in English from GSU. I am an educator, like many other women and men in my family, and most of all, I am a mother. I love being a mom. My daughter, Brooklynn, is 4 years old and she is absolutely my world. I admire her wonder and her amazement at some of the simplest things in the world, things that we adults take for granted. On my teaching philosophy, I wrote that I love to hear students ask the question WHY. My daughter is at that stage, where everything is a question of why? My daughter is my inspiration and I thank God everyday that I have her.

Since as long as I can remember, I have always seen myself as the type of person that helps people in anyway I can, which is why I chose the field of education.

Failure was not an option when I was growing up and therefore in the classroom, I carry those same family values and give my students every opportunity to succeed and become what they want. I have taken over 40 education related courses at GSU and from all of them, I have learned that teaching is an art and that a child's mind is the canvas and I am the one holding the paint and the brush!

Elementary (K-6th)

I have recently worked with many students at the elementary level in the subjects of math, science, and English. I currently hold a B.A. in English. I am knowledgeable about what students at that grade level need in order to progress to the middle school grades. Thank you for you consideration and I hope to meet you soon.

Study Skills

In the past, I have tutored students on the value of studying and how to do it. I know how to take notes and how to get you to understand what information is important or not. I can provide different methods and tricks for making memorization easier.

Track & Field

I did track all four years of high school and participated in a community track team. I only participated in the field events, especially discus and shot put. I have been to state competitions two times, and to the Junior Olympics in Florida, placing 5 in the national rankings. I love throwing the discus and the shot put. I also help out this Spring at a local high school with their girl's track team, in the throwing events

Tennis

I have played tennis for all four years of high school and I played two years at Joliet Junior College. My positions at both in high school and college were Number 1 doubles and Number 2 singles. Varsity level all four years in High School and first two years of college.

Sign Language

I have taken two classes in Sign Language at the college level, receiving A's in both. I kept all of my information that I gathered from the classes, including lessons, textbooks, and worksheets, and I can convey the basics of Sign Language accurately.

For tutoring more than 1 person, there will be a $10 an hour increase. For one student it is $25 an hour, for two students it is $35 an hour, for three students it is $45 an hour, and so on.
